Now you are thinking, how many different types of crappie jigs are on the market today and where do you start and for what application, the factors you have to go with is wind speed, weight, colors, and line size you are using for crappie jigging. Most people think that live minnows have always been the proven method for crappie fishing, but with all of the baitfish that are around structure, you have to present the minnow differently so that it doesn’t look like the rest of the baitfish in order to get a bite. weights about 3 inches above your jig will keep the jig in front of the crappie, slight vertical movements will trigger crappie to bite, this goes for slow drifting too. Another crappie jigging tactic is to find your brush pile throw out a marker buoy and cast past the structure fishing it horizontally with a slider jig, slowly bringing it back across the brush pile, they could be on the sides, in the brush itself, when you feel a tap or thump set the hook. For suspended crappie, top of brush is in 18 feet, cast out your jig and count down 1 foot per second to 18 feet and slowly bring it over the top, when you get bit repeat the process.
